About Sadia Ahmad

+

Sadia Ahmad is a Pakistani visual artist and calligrapher whose practice explores the relationship between language, memory, and human connection. Working across calligraphy, painting, and mixed media, she transforms written words into expressive visual forms that invite reflection on communication, identity, and the emotions that often remain unspoken. Rooted in traditional calligraphy yet informed by a contemporary perspective, her work balances structure with abstraction, creating compositions that are both visually striking and conceptually layered. Through exhibitions across Pakistan and an ongoing commitment to teaching and artistic research, Ahmad continues to develop a practice that bridges cultural heritage with contemporary visual expression.

How Sadia Ahmad works

My practice combines calligraphy, painting, and mixed media, using materials such as canvas, handmade paper, pottery, acrylic and oil paints, ink, plaster of Paris, and gold leaf where appropriate. Each work begins with research, sketching, and the selection of text before moving through multiple layers of composition and mark-making. Depending on the scale and complexity, a piece typically takes between one and four weeks to complete. For bespoke commissions, I work closely with collectors and clients to understand their vision, preferred size, color palette, and conceptual direction while ensuring the final artwork remains true to my artistic language and practice.
