How Afshan works
Process My artistic practice is rooted in the traditional techniques of Mughal and Indo-Persian miniature painting, while allowing space for personal interpretation and contemporary expression. Materials: I primarily work with watercolor and gouache on wasli paper, using fine handmade brushes to achieve intricate details. Gold leaf and decorative pigments are occasionally incorporated to enhance the richness and luminosity of the compositions. The surfaces are carefully prepared to support the delicate layering process characteristic of miniature painting. Timeframe: The completion of each artwork depends on its size, complexity, and level of detail. Smaller works may take between two to four weeks, while larger and more intricate compositions can require several months. The meticulous nature of miniature painting demands patience, precision, and sustained attention to detail. Approach to Bespoke Commissions: When undertaking commissioned work, I begin with an in-depth discussion with the client to understand their vision, themes, and personal narratives they wish to express. Preliminary sketches and compositional ideas are then developed and shared for feedback. Throughout the process, I maintain close communication with clients, ensuring that the final artwork reflects both their expectations and my artistic language. Each commissioned piece is approached as a unique collaboration, resulting in a personalized work that combines traditional aesthetics with meaningful storytelling
