About Maliha Azami Aga

Maliha Azami Aga, born and raised in Pakistan, is a Fine Artist and retired Professor of the Arts. Having studied and taught Art History, Maliha’s work is anchored in her Pakistani background, while her concerns ultimately remain universal. The themes and visual motifs that she employs in her work stem from issues that are rooted in her homeland and emblematic of her lived experiences. Her use of colour is almost countercultural in a society that prioritizes sobriety and restraint over expression. There is an unabashed freedom in her approach to the canvas, where every inch is meticulously layered with vibrant pigments. At the same time, Maliha does not shy away from channelling darkness in her work, both conceptually and literally. Nor does she limit herself solely to one medium. The diversity of her catalogue spans across multiple solo exhibitions, each unique in the way they embody the human condition, and her own psyche.
