About the piece
This watercolor painting captures the timeless bustle of Platform No. 4 at Lahore Railway Station, a place where countless stories of arrival and departure intersect. The artist’s eye lingers on the soaring iron roof, the interplay of light and shadow, and the rhythmic geometry of arches that echo Lahore’s colonial past. Built in 1860 during the British Raj, the station stands as one of South Asia’s grandest railway terminals, designed to resemble a fortified castle—an emblem of both utility and authority. Rendered with vivid washes and fine detailing, the composition brings forth not only architectural magnificence but also the vibrant pulse of life. Figures in motion—families, porters, and travelers—are painted with expressive strokes, each suggesting the urgency and anticipation that define railway journeys. The green-and-yellow carriages of Pakistan Railways stretch into the distance, symbolizing continuity and connection across generations.
